Our Vision for the Nags Head

“It will be a space where all members of our community can relax, enjoy conversations, friendships, refreshments and strengthen bonds, promoting both physical and mental well-being while reducing social isolation. The Nags Head will continue to be the heart of our rural community.”

"More than a Pub"

Saltby is a small village in rural Leicestershire situated between Melton Mowbray and Grantham.  It consists of about 80 houses, with around 120 adults and a number of children of varying ages.  Many varied trades are represented by the villagers.

The Nags Head Pub has been an important part of our village of Saltby since the 1800’s and is now the only remaining pub in the village.  It is also the only remaining community space or facility within the village with facilities

Securing the pub's future

The current landlords wish to retire and hence the pub is up for sale.

Saltby needs to retain the Nags Head as a pub, otherwise we would lose our only communal meeting place.

Through community ownership, we plan to secure the pub’s future, protect it from any potential changes in use and ensure it remains a vibrant and steadfast asset for generations to come.  We are therefore in the process of buying the pub as a Community Business Society, bought by and for the local community.

The Nags Head Saltby
The king pin of our community

The Nags Head is a vital king pin of this community.  It provides an important meeting point and communal hub within Saltby.  The pub also supports the surrounding villages where there are no pubs, including Stonesby, Sproxton, Croxton Kerrial, Wyville and other smaller villages.  It is also popular with customers from Waltham on the Wolds, Grantham and from further afield.

A place to meet

The Nags Head has proven to be a popular, welcoming and friendly pub.  It has hosted many village events, both communal and personal, and hosts a number of local clubs such as a Pétanque team, Crib team and the local Knit and Natter group amongst others.  The pub has also been involved in numerous fund-raising events for the Air Ambulance.  It has also been a source of employment and training for both adults and teenagers, this is particularly useful where transport may be a problem.

The Nags Head is open for Business!

This website is dedicated to saving the Nags Head, but we are pleased to tell you that the pub is very much still open for drinks and delicious home-cooked meals.

We have lived in Saltby since 2007. The Nags Head was the first place we visited when buying our house and has continued to be an important part of our families life in the village. We give this pub 5/5 stars!
THE QUILTER FAMILY
The Nags is the place to be, for casual drinks with friends, a good meal and for events of all sorts. Because of the welcoming environment of the Nags, we've gotten to know so many people from Saltby and neighbouring villages

The Nags Head was a very important part of getting involved in village life. It was always very friendly, welcoming and inclusive. We have made many friends, met lots of characters and had some brilliant nights.
